Rajshahi Sugar Mills exceeds production target

RAJSHAHI, Mar 12 (UNB): Rajshahi Sugar Mills completed sugarcane crushing Tuesday with a production of 13,300 tonnes of sugar exceeding its target.
Mill sources said the authority had set a target to produce 12,300 tonnes of sugar by crushing 0.17 million tonnes of sugarcane this year. But the target has been exceeded as 13,300 tonnes of sugar were procured by crushing 0.19 million tonnes of sugarcane, the sources added.
As the mill exceeded its output target, the production cost of sugar has declined by Tk 3,500 per tonne this year, the source said.
This year, farmers harvested 0.504 million tonnes of sugarcane from 25,500 hectares of land in the mill area. Of the total production, mill authority purchased 0.19 million tonnes for crushing.
Meanwhile, the government raised the price of sugar by Tk 9,000 per tonne and the mill authority has started selling sugar at the increased rate from March 4.
