Rajshahi transport strike called off

RAJSHAHI, Oct 4 (bdnews24.com): Agitating transport workers have withdrawn their indefinite strike, imposed on 16 northern districts from Monday morning, upon authorities' assurance that their demands will be met.
The workers sat in a meeting with the Rajshahi divisional commissioner at his office at noon.
Mujibur Rahman, general secretary of the federation's northern zone, told the news agency, "We have called off the strike as the authorities assured us that they would meet our demands.
The workers' 10-point demands include an end to harassment of workers, withdrawal of false cases and the ban on improvised vehicles like Nosiman, Koriman and battery-run auto-rickshaws.
The regional committee of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation declared the strike Sunday.
Rajshahi additional divisional commissioner Swapan Kumar Roy told the news agency the administration were hopeful about a successful meeting with the workers' leaders to end the strike.
