Sunday, 18 May 2014

Rajuk Uttara Model School and College in Dhaka has topped the country in terms of its students’ performance in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations this year. Ideal School and College, which held the position last year, has ended up second. Six of the top 10 institutions this year are under the Dhaka board. Of the remaining, two are from Chittagong and one each from Comilla and Dinajpur. The first position in SSC ranking has mostly been captured by Rajuk and Ideal over the last decade. The present ranking system, done by the education ministry, is based on five factors: percentage of GPA-5, pass rate, percentage of regular students, average GPA for the school and number of students. Rajuk, Ideal and Viqarunnisa Nun School and College, which secured third place, have a hundred percent pass rate. Dhaka’s Milestone College which got fourth position this year is the emerging star in this race. The school, founded in 2002, has improved its performance rapidly and made its place among the older colossuses. Rajuk was founded in 1994, Ideal in 1965 and Viqarunnisa in 1952. The oldest of these schools is Chittagong Collegiate School, established in 1836. Of the top ten, only three are public schools. These are: Chittagong Collegiate School in sixth position, Comilla Zila School in eighth and Rangpur Cantonment Public School and College in tenth position, according to bdnews24.com.
