Rajuk serves notice on Jamuna Future Park
Monday, 18 January 2010
Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakhha (Rajuk) has served notice on owners of the Jamuna Future Park (JFP) project, located at Basundhara, for violation of the building design and plan, ordering them to demolish any structure erected beyond the approved six-storey height within seven days, reports bdnews24.com.
"We've sent a letter today to JFP owners, asking them to demolish the unauthorised portion of the project," Rajuk development and planning director Sheikh Abdul Mannan said Sunday.
He said Rajuk authorised construction up to six floors for the project located at Basundhara, Baridhara that Jamuna Group claims will be one of the biggest shopping and entertainment complexes in the region. It is scheduled to open at the year-end.
Meanwhile, Jamuna Group chairman Nurul Islam Babul has said the government orders on JFP project to demolish any illegal structure is an act of vengeance of state minister for public works Abdul Mannan Khan.
Babul, who owns Bengali Daily Jugantor, said: "No construction has been in an unauthorised manner here. We were given approval to construct up to seven floors. The approval said Rajuk would inspect if any further constructions were made beyond seven floors. We have constructed it under the supervision of Rajuk," Babul said.
"It is an outburst of personal outrage, as recently a report was published (in Jugantor) on the corruption of the state minister for housing."
"The government ordered demolition of structures erected beyond seven storeys. I filed a writ petition in the High Court. The court served show cause notices on the relevant officials including the minister. For this reason, such rumours are deliberately being spread about the Jamuna Future Park."
But, the minister has dismissed the accusation, saying it goes against his taste to respond to Babul's remarks.
