Rakib clinches CJKS GM Chess title

CHITTAGONG, Feb 13 (UNB): Grandmaster Abdullah Al-Rakib of the Bangladesh Navy clinched the CJKS-Prime Distributions Group Grandmasters Chess title with six points after the 9th and last round match on the MA Aziz Stadium premises here Friday.
Rakib and Tair earned six points each, but Rakib emerged champions in the tie breaker as per tournament's rules with more victories than Tair.
Uzbek grandmaster Tair became runner-up with less number of victories against Rakib.
GM Niaz Murshed of the Dhaka Mohammedan SC Ltd was placed 3rd while IM Minhazuddin Ahmed Sagar of the Bangladesh Navy finished 4th.
Niaz and Minhaz earned 5.5 points each, but their positions were decided through tie-breaking system.
IM Somak Palit of India became 5th securing 5 points.
Three players earned 4 points each. Their positions are: 6th-IM Akshat Khamparia of India, 7th-FM Sheikh Nasir Ahmed of the Bangladesh Navy and 8th-IM Abu Sufian Shakil of the Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club.
WGM Toma Katarzyna of Poland became 9th with 3 points while FM Kh Aminul Islam of the Bangladesh Navy finished 10th and last with 2 points.
The prize distribution ceremony of the tournament was also held Friday at the CJKS auditorium of the MA Aziz Stadium.
