Rakib emerges unbeaten champion in International Rating Chess

Grandmaster Abdullah Al Rakib of Bangladesh Navy emerged unbeaten champion in the Walton International Rating Chess Tournament which concluded at Bangladesh Chess Federation hallroom Saturday.  Rakib earned 8.5 after the final round of the meet to clinch the title, confirmed the title after 8th round games. FM Mehdi Hasan Parag of Leonine Chess Club finished runner-up securing 8 points form 9 matches while Abdullah Al-Saif of Golden Sporting Club became 3rd following tie-breaking system as three players earned identical 7 points each after the final round. Anisuzzaman Jewel of Mir Chess Club became 4th and SM Sharon of Bangladesh Navy placed 5th. Nine players earned 6.5 points each to place from 6th to 14th. They are: FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman Emon (6th), Uten (7th), Mahtabuddin Ahmed (8th), Saimon Siddiqur Rahman (9th), Mohammed Enayet Hossain (10th), Mohammad Sherajul Kabir (11th), Mukitul Islam Ripon (12th), CM Sohel Chowdhury (13th) and Shahnaz Mohammad Faruk (14th). FM Mohammad Javed, Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan and Faisal Hossain finished 15th, 16th and 17th respectively by tie-breaking system among 13 players who earned 6 points each, according to a news agency.
