Rakibur Rahman new DSE president

Md Rakibur Rahman was elected the new president of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Saturday for the next one year.

The DSE board of directors in a meeting on the day also re-elected Saiful Islam as the senior vice president and elected Md Shakil Rizvi as the vice president.

Rakibur Rahman earlier served the DSE as its chairman during 1997-2000 period.

Md Rakibur Rahman and Shakil Rizvi succeeded Abdul Haque and Sharif Ataur Rahman respectively.

Earlier the 47th annual general meeting of DSE took place which passed a condolence resolution in memory of the martyrs killed in the recent armed rebellion of BDR in the BDR head quarters in the city.

The AGM, attended by a large number of DSE Members reviewed the market situation and urged the investors to invest considering the fundamentals of the companies.

Talking to the reporters after the AGM, the newly-elected DSE president sought cooperation from all to build a strong securities market.

Four new directors were inducted in the board. They are Md Feroz Khan, Md Rafiqul Islam, Md Shakil Rizvi and Md Shahjahan.

As per article 81 of DSE constitution, four directors resign voluntarily to pave the way for electing four new policy-makers every year in the 12-member board of directors.

The new directors replaced Mr Sharif Ataur Rahman, Mr Md Abdullah Bokhari, Mr Azizul Hoque and Mr Shahed Abdul Khaleque.
