RAKUB for improving rural socio-economic condition

RAJSHAHI, Mar 17 (BSS) : Speakers at a discussion said Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) should put its best efforts towards improving living and livelihood condition of the rural people besides boosting agricultural yield to feed the gradually increasing population of the country.
The specialised public bank must be committed to take its services to the doorsteps of the farmers in general for elevating their living and livelihood condition.
The bank should work for bringing all the existing agricultural potential sectors and sub-sectors under qualitative and quantitative investments for making the region's agro-based economy more vibrant.
They made these observations while addressing the opening session of 377th branch of RAKUB at Daudkandi under Durgapur upazila of the district Monday, RAKUB sources said here Tuesday.
RAKUB, headquartered in Rajshahi, has been operating its banking activities as the largest development partner in all 16 northwest districts of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions targetting its agricultural sector and all its sub-sectors.
Abdul Wadud Dara, MP, and Akter Jahan, MP, addressed the ceremony as the chief and special guests respectively with Abdul Khaleque Khan, deputy managing director of RAKUB, in the chair.
Chairman of the bank's Board of Directors Prof Dr Shah Newaz Ali, Managing Director Monzur Ahmed, Durgapur Upazila Chairman Nazrul Islam, Pourasava Mayor Tofazzal Hossain, RAKUB General Manager Abdus Samad and Zonal Manager Lokeman Ali also spoke.
The speakers viewed that the present government has attained remarkable success in agriculture sector and urged the RAKUB authority to put in their collective efforts to uphold the success in the days ahead.
They mentioned that the government has attachedĀ  the highest priority to the agriculture sector and added that the field level bankers and others concerned should take the responsibilities of reaching the government's services to the farmers' doorsteps.
They noted that the bank's administrative and operational activities must be transparent and accountable alongside farmers-friendly for boosting the agricultural production.
For the sake of sustainable livelihood development of the farmers and for bolstering the agro-based economy, the meeting called for increasing the need-based credit flow.
They discussed elaborately on how to make the bank's operational and commercial activities more dynamic through strengthening the credit support for both farm and non-farm fields.
Terming the farmers as the vital force to boost the agricultural productions they expressed their commitment to protect the farmers' interests as a whole.
