Ramadan and sweltering heat
Sunday, 5 July 2015
This year the Ramadan fasting stretches over 15 hours a day. During these long hours of fasting when the weather is mostly hot and humid, we need to be careful about our health. We have to choose our Iftar and Sahri menu carefully so that it keeps our body fit when we are without any food or drink.
Hot summer is on and the temperature is likely to rise further. We should, therefore, take all precautions so that we remain in the best of our health and observe Ramadan properly. We should cut down our outdoor time during the day when the heat is high. We should be careful about our clothes also.
During the harsh summer, we need to take plenty of fluid, especially plain water. We must avoid caffeine and carbohydrate drinks. We should be particularly careful about school-going children and prevent them from going out and playing outdoor. Load shedding is a serious problem during summer and we should be cautious about using power and avoid any wastage, more so because electricity is becoming costlier now.
