Tuesday, 24 June 2014

Secondary level schools will remain closed from June 29 to August 6 for Holy Ramadan and Holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the education ministry has said. According to the annual calendar, the vacation was to start from July 6. All public and private secondary schools, Madrasas and equivalent institutes will remain closed until Aug 6 on the occasion of Ramadan, Jumat-ul-Wida, Shab-e-Qadr and Eid-ul Fitr, the ministry said in an order on Tuesday. Based on the appearance of the moon, Ramadan is expected to commence sometime in the end of June. The education ministry earlier decided to let schools and colleges close from the 10th day of Ramadan but in a recent cabinet meeting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina pushed for holidays from the first day of the holy month of Ramadan for rigorous fasting. An order on declaring holidays for government primary schools and colleges from the first day of Ramadan will also be issued soon, ministry officials said, according to bdnews24.com.
