Rana, Tanzid complete Pakistan's demolition

Tigers cruise to eight-wicket win in ODI series opener

Thursday, 12 March 2026

Nahid Rana delivered a devastating spell, claiming 5 for 24 from seven overs, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with 3 for 29 to wrap up Pakistan's innings in just 30.4 overs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday, report agencies.
Pakistan began on a steady note as openers Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat put together 41 runs for the first wicket.
Farhan struck 27 and Sadaqat added 18 before Rana ignited Bangladesh's charge, slicing through the top order with a burst that removed the first five batsmen.
The visitors never recovered from that collapse. Only Mohammad Rizwan, who made 10, and Faheem Ashraf -- whose fighting 37 was the highest score of the innings -- managed to reach double figures as Bangladesh's bowlers maintained relentless pressure throughout to bowl them out for a meagre 114.
Chasing the small target, Bangladesh lost Saif Hassan (4) early, but Tanzid Hasan anchored the innings with composure. He forged a crucial second-wicket partnership of 82 with Najmul Hossain Shanto (27), steering the Tigers towards victory.
The finale came in anticlimactic fashion when Mohammad Wasim's wide delivery down the leg side handed Bangladesh a commanding win, giving the home side a 1-0 lead in the series.
Bangladesh pace sensation Nahid Rana claimed his first five-wicket haul in one-day internationals to lead his team to a crushing eight-wicket win over Pakistan in their opening match on Wednesday.
Rana returned figures of 5-24 to skittle out Pakistan for 114, a total Bangladesh overhauled in 15.1 overs of the 50-over contest in Mirpur to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Opener Tanzid Hasan hammered an unbeaten 67 off 42 balls and put on a second-wicket partnership of 82 with Najmul Hossain Shanto, who made 27, in a statement win.
Saif Hassan fell early for four, while Litton Das remained unbeaten on three with Tanzid.
Earlier, Nahid laid the platform for victory with his outstanding spell in his seven overs to bowl out Pakistan for their lowest ODI total against Bangladesh, eclipsing the previous 161 during the 1999 World Cup.
The 23-year-old Nahid ripped through Pakistan's top order, becoming the first Bangladeshi bowler to dismiss the opposition's top five batters in an ODI innings.
Nahid removed Sahibzada Farhan (27), Shamyl Hussain (4), Maaz Sadaqat (18), Mohammad Rizwan (10) and Salman Agha (5) as Pakistan slumped to 69-5.
He was ably supported by captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who took 3-29 with his off-spin.
Senior quicks Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman took one wicket each.
Number eight Faheem Ashraf offered brief resistance with his 37 before being dismissed by Mustafizur as Pakistan were eventually bowled out in 30.4 overs.
The performance marked a breakthrough in Nahid's young ODI career since his debut in 2024.
He had taken only five wickets in his first five matches before producing the five-wicket haul in his sixth appearance.
Nahid is now only the second Bangladeshi bowler to take a five-wicket haul against Pakistan in ODIs after Mustafizur's 5-75 during the 2019 World Cup.
Batting first, Pakistan got off to a promising start as the new opening pair of Maaz Sadaqat and Sahibzada Farhan set the tone with runs flowing quickly to give the visitors an ideal beginning.
However, the 41-run stand was broken when pacer Nahid Rana struck, dismissing Farhan who scored 27 off 38 balls, including four boundaries in the final over of the first powerplay.
Nahid struck again in the 12th over, removing debutant Shamyl Hussain who failed to contribute, scoring four off seven deliveries, leaving the team at 47-2 in 11.3 overs.
Pakistan struggled to preserve their wickets and kept losing them in quick succession as opener Maaz was sent back by Rana, scoring 18 off 28 balls with three fours.
Mohammad Rizwan was the next to fall, adding pressure on the Green Shirts, with Rana claiming yet another wicket; Rizwan contributed 10 off 20 deliveries, including two boundaries, leaving the team at 64-4 in 15.5 overs.
Rana picked up his fifth wicket, dismantling Pakistan's batting order as Salman Ali Agha fell cheaply for five off eight balls, with a boundary to his name.
The Green Shirts were six down, with Bangladesh growing in confidence as Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissed Abdul Samad for a six-ball duck, leaving Pakistan struggling at 70-6 in 19 overs.
Pakistan's wickets continued to tumble as Mehidy Hasan struck again, claiming his second wicket by removing Hussain Talat for four off 13 deliveries.
In the same over, skipper Shaheen Afridi came to the crease and hit a boundary in an attempt to relieve the pressure, but his stay was brief as he was LBW to Mehidy Hasan for a run-a-ball four, leaving the team reeling at 81-8 in 22.5 overs.
Taskin Ahmed joined the attack and claimed his first wicket of the game by dismissing Wasim Jr for a duck. Faheem Ashraf held firm and added crucial runs to take his side past the 100-run mark in the 26th over.
However, Mustafizur Rahman struck to dismiss Faheem, claiming his first wicket of the match, and contributed 37 runs off 47 balls, including six fours and one six, to close the innings.
Nahid Rana tore through Pakistan's batting lineup with a brilliant 5/24 in seven overs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz took three wickets, while Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed claimed one wicket each.
