RANCON launches Proton X90 as sole authorised distributor

Invests US$100m in its automobile production at home

RANCON officially unveiled two variants of Proton X90 hybrid vehicle in Dhaka on Thursday, announcing a plan to start producing automobiles of this brand at its plant this year. The launch of Proton X90 marks the beginning of a partnership between Malaysian multinational automotive manufacturer PROTON Holdings and RANCON Cars Limited as the exclusive distributor and manufacturer in Bangladesh.
Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Haznah Md. Hashim attended the launching ceremony as chief guest at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel.
Founded in 1983 to lay the foundations for Malaysia's automotive industry, PROTON entered the next phase of its plan to be a global automotive brand in 2017 with the signing of a partnership between its two principals, DRB-HICOM and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. Today, PROTON makes cars anchored on its brand promise of INSPIRING CONNECTIONS and delivering innovative technology, reliability and international standards.
On the partnership with RANCON, PROTON's Chief Executive Officer Dr. Li Chunrong said the Bangladeshi company is establishing a sales and after sales network and would invest in a manufacturing line to locally assemble Proton vehicles. "With more offerings coming in the near future, we look forward to being a major player in the country's automotive market," said Dr Li Chunrong."
Group Managing Director of RANCON Holdings Limited Romo Rouf Chowdhury announced, "RANCON has already invested US$100 million in its own state-of-the-art Industrial Park in Bangladesh. By the end of 2024, we plan to commence production of Proton vehicles at this facility, with a target to significantly reduce the retail price."
The Proton X90 contains a 48V mild hybrid system, which includes a 1.5L turbocharged engine, co-developed with Volvo, resulting in improved fuel efficiency and enhancing overall performance.
RANCON will retail the two variants of the Proton X90 - the 6-seater Flagship variant retailing at Taka 49.90 lakh and the 7-seater Premium at Taka 45.90 lakh - at its showrooms in Dhaka and Chattogram.
RANCON will offer a warranty of five years or 150,000 km (whichever comes first) with six free after sales services. RANCON will also be providing authorised after sales service and ensure genuine spare parts in its own authorised service centres in both Dhaka and Chattogram initially.
