Sunday, 5 April 2009

RANGPUR (BSS): Prime Minister's Adviser for Education, Social Development and Political Affairs Professor Dr Alauddin Ahmed Saturday assured the people of the region that Rangpur would soon become a division.
The government will establish Rangpur Science and Technology University (RSTU) as per a decision of the then government in 2001 and setting up of gas supply line will begin soon to ensure supply of natural gas to the people of Rangpur, he added.
The adviser said this at a gathering while addressing the academic activities launching ceremony of Rangpur University at the auditorium of Rangpur Zila Parishad Community Centre in the city as the chief guest at noon.
Members of parliaments, chairmen and vice-chairmen of different upazilas, educationists, teachers, students, officials and employees of Rangpur University and other institutions, political leaders, businessmen, professionals and elite were present on the occasion.
He said the then government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina finalised all formalities and passed the Acts for setting up of twelve science and technology universities (STUs) across the country and six of those were implemented.
But, after the change of the government in 2001, the next government changed all of the basic principles and development programmes of the previous government and the other six STUs were not established, which is very condemnable.
"The previous government brought gas up to Bogra and had done injustice to the Rangpur people, he added and said, "Being the political adviser to the Prime Minister, I will definitely advise her to set up gas supply pipeline up to Rangpur on priority basis."
He assured the Rangpur people that there is no doubt that Rangpur is becoming a division very soon and the process has been progressing very fast.
