Monday, 2 July 2012

The government Sunday formally declared Rangpur municipality a city corporation in line with the election pledge of the ruling Awami League, reports BSS.
A gazette notification was issued on June 28 regarding the formation of the corporation.
An official of Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) confirmed it saying that an administrator for the new City Corporation is likely to be appointed by this week.
As per rules, the polls schedule should be announced within 180 days from the day of formation of the city corporation, he said.
The government has earlier moved to set up four city corporations in the areas of eight municipalities-Narayanganj, Siddhirganj, Kadamrasul, Rangpur, Gazipur, Tongi, Comilla and Comilla Sadar Dakkhin.
Comilla and Narayanganj were declared city corporations last year.
