Rangpur to see a bumper yield of mustards

Our Correspondent RANGPUR, Dec 13: Farmers of Rangpur district are expecting a bumper production of mustard this season as the weather seems to be very conducive to mustard cultivation, sources said. According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources, a total of 3,450 hectares of land have been brought under mustard cultivation in 8 upazilas of the district this year with a production target of 3, 500 metric tonnes of mustard grains. Congenial climate condition, proper distribution of high quality seeds, timely supply of fertilisers, less pest attack and adequate agri-inputs made it possible for the farmers to cultivate the crop uninterruptedly, said deputy assistant agriculture officer Abdul Khaled. The farmers of the district are showing enthusiasm in cultivating mustard after getting satisfactory production the previous seasons. Meanwhile, some commercial banks including Krishi Unnayan Bank also disbursed soft loans to the farmers in order to boost up the production of the crop, sources added.
