Rangpur University begins academic activities this year: Dr Zillur

RANGPUR, July 5 (BSS): Adviser for Education and Commerce Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman today reiterated the government's decision to start academic activities of the newly launched Rangpur University from this year.

Advertisement for admitting students from the next academic session in six subjects of two faculties of the newly set up full-fledged public university will be published after publication of this year's results of the HSC, he added.

Dr Hossain Zillur said this while chairing a views-exchanging meeting on Rangpur University related matters with the members of the civil society of Rangpur today at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC).

Agriculture and Water Resources Advisor Dr C S Karim, Agriculture Secretary M Abdul Aziz, Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner M Hafizur Rahman Bhuiyan, Deputy Commissioners of Rangpur, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha and Nilphamari, were present. Besides, former vice chancellor of Jahangirnagar University Prof Amirul Islam Chowdhury, Chief Engineer of the Department of Education Engineering A K M Shahjahan Patwari, Director General of the WDB Hossain Shaheed Mozadded Faruk, Additional Chief Engineer of LGED m Nurul Islam, noted educationists, elite and journalists of the city were present.

Dr Zillur today visited the site of the new public university and several educational institutions with the senior officials from the ministry at Dhaka and said that the classes will initially be held in hired houses as the university buildings are yet to be completed.

He said, primarily, the admission will be given from this year in two faculties of science and technology and humanities and social science covering six subjects of mathematics, computer science, Bengali, English, Economics and BBA and the number of subjects will be raised to eleven within the next five years.

Dr Zillur said, the academic activities will be launched in such a way that it will meet the need-based demand of the area and country to produce worthy citizens with quality and standard education and ensure the enrolment of higher education in this region.
