Some miscreants chopped to death a local Awami League leader in Rangpur city on Monday night. Imran Hossain, joint secretary of the ruling party’s unit at Ward-30, was attacked last night, said Kotwali Police Station OC Abdul Kader Zilani. The miscreants hacked him to death and dumped his body at Satmatha (an intersection in the city), police and locals said. Witnesses said ‘They (miscreants) left him lying at Satmatha,’ the local people said. ‘Doctors declared him dead when he was taken to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital around 4:00am,’ they added. Imran Hossain’s supporters went on the rampage in the city on Tuesday morning after hearing of his murder, said OC Zilani. A blockade by them near the site of the murder disrupted vehicular movement between Lalmonirhat to Kurigram from 7:00am. Accusing Juba League joint convener Ashraful Alam of having a hand in the murder, they set fire to his office in the city. A private car and a bus parked nearby were also torched during that attack. Both police and locals said infighting in the ruling party led to Imran’s murder, according to a news agency.
