CHITTAGONG, Mar 27: Raozan Thermal Power Plant is yet to resume production as the plant tripped following a boiler blast on Saturday night, the second in a week. The second unit of the 210-megawatt capacity thermal plant suspended generation of electricity for the second time in six days of its resuming production after a three-month halt for gas crisis on March 19. "The technical glitch forced the authorities to suspend production. The explosion occurred when the Unit-2 of the 420-megawatt (mw) thermal project was in operation at around 7.30 pm on Saturday," said PDB assistant director Md Moniruzzaman in Chittagong region today. The explosion had no human casualty but a number of windowpanes have been shattered in building inside the plant, he said. A team from Dhaka has already started to examine the machineries. Repair of the plant may take a few weeks, he said. Production in Unit-1 of the mega plant also remains suspended for a long time due to maintenance work, it is learnt.
