The Bangladeshi female student, who was allegedly raped by a research scholar at Visva-Bharati University at Santiniketan in India’s West Bengal state, is leaving the institution. A BBC Bangla report has said that the student would be leaving Santiniketan for Bangladesh with her father in a few days. According to the report, the student’s father arrived in India last Friday and went to police with the principal of Visva-Bharati on Sunday. The student lodged complaints against the rapist who is also a Bangladeshi. Quoting the complaints, the BBC Bangla report said the research scholar repeatedly raped her for the last few months by threatening to upload her ‘objectionable photographs’ on the Internet. It said the accused was known to the young woman, being her local guardian. Police already arrested him and Visva-Bharati authorities expelled him over the allegations. The Indian police also seized his mobile phone, laptop and flash drive. Bolpur subdivision police officer Surya Pratap Yadab said: ‘That student is now with her father after leaving the women’s dormitory. Police is likely to record her statement in front of a magistrate. After that the student will start for Bangladesh,’ Bolpur subdivision officer Yadab he said. However, Visva-Bharati did not make any comment on the matter, according to bdnews24.com.
