Rapist awarded 25 cane lashes

BIANIBAZAR, Mar 22 (UNB): A young man is awarded 25 cane lashes and fine of Tk 10,000 for violating a teenage girl at Sheola village.
The punishment to Imamuddin (22), spoiled son of an influential man, was given the punishment in a village arbitration meeting. The elders took up the matter as police declined to accept the rape case.
Locals said sub-inspector Fazlul Haq of Bianibazar thana exerted pressure on the poor parents of rape victim Rahima (not the real name), allegedly under money influence. Imamuddin picked up Rahima (13), student of class V, on her way to sister's home and deflowered her.
Asabuddin, member of Sheola union parishad, confirmed the rape incident and asked for punishment to the rapist. Meanwhile, the family of another rape victim has been compelled to leave home in Bianibazar Upazila town under life threat by four BCL cadres who are accused in the rape case.
