Rapist gets RI in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, May 17 (BSS): A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a court here Monday on charge of raping a minor girl in the town year. Judge of the special tribunal for prevention of women and children repression Afzal Hossain found the man guilty of the charge and pronounced the verdict in his presence. The convict identified as Abu Sayeed of Seroil area under Boalia Police Station in the city was also fined Tk 5,000, in default, to suffer one year more in jail with labour. According to the prosecution, the convict Abu Sayeed raped a baby in his bedroom on November 8 last year. Hearing the sound of crying of the girl, local people rushed to the spot and caught the rapist red- handed and handed over him to police. Mother of the victim lodged a case with the police station on the following morning and police pressed charges against the accused on completion of investigation. After examining the recorded depositions of 10 prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidences the tribunal handed down the aforesaid verdict.
