Raushan says she wants to quit politics

Thursday, 27 March 2014

Barely two-and-half-month into office after the January 5 national elections, opposition leader Raushan Ershad on Thursday said she is thinking to quit politics. “I wouldn’t contest polls in the future. I’m thinking not to do politics. I’ve done enough,” said Raushan, wife of former President and Jatiya Party (JP) chief HM Ershad. Raushan, also the presidium member of JP, said this while addressing the founding anniversary programme of Jatiya Chhatra Samaj at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in the city. Raushan claimed that she has no conflict with her husband and JP chairman HM Ershad saying, “There’s no conflict between us. We’re united.” Pointing at her husband, Raushan said, “When he was in jail, I alone had led the party. Many say I want to be the party chairman. Why should I need to be the party chairman? I have no such experience. Leadership quality is the gift of the Almighty Allah.” About Jatiya Party’s participation in the Jan 5 polls, the opposition leader said. “We had decided not to participate in the polls, but finally we had to do because of the evolving situation. That’s our fate,” according to UNB.
