Leader of the Opposition Raushan Ershad has told the Jatitya Sangsad (parliament) that adulteration of food is going unabated in the country. Terming food adulteration a serious crime, she said it is posing a grave threat to public health. ‘The government has to take the matter into cognisance to ensure safe food for the people of Bangladesh,’ she said while delivering her concluding speech in the House before prorogation of 3rd session of the 10th Parliament. Raushan Ershad said that food adulteration has become a social menace and called upon all to be more vocal against this vice. She urged the government for strict enforcement of law to prevent this crime. She also demanded that the government take steps to repair roads and highways before Eid-ul-Azha. Mentioning that condition of roads and highways in different areas, specially on the Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Mymensingh highways ‘dilapidated’, she demanded immediate steps to repair the rundown roads well before Eid for the sake of commuters. She also called upon the government to bring down the load shedding to a tolerable limit by ensuring smooth supply of power and preventing its misuse, according to a news agency.
