Raushon slams govt for law & order slide

Monday, 1 September 2014

Opposition leader Raushon Ershad Monday criticised the government for what she said not taking timely measures to deal with the deteriorating law and order and flood situation, and preventing accidents on river routes and food adulteration, according to a news agency.
Standing on point of order, Raushon Ershad said Maulana Nurul Islam Faruqui, a television programme presenter and also the imam of Supreme Court Mosque, and three people were killed in their residences in two successive days in the capital.
“If people are not safe in their own residences, where will they be safe? The bodies of people are found in rivers and ditches, but the perpetrators go unpunished…crimes continue unabated,” she told the House.
Mentioning that flood has left over 1.5 million people homeless in northern districts, Raushon demanded distribution of adequate relief materials among the victims and the engagement of the army in rehabilitating them.
She also demanded that Mymensingh be declared a division, as some smaller districts have already been made divisions.
Voicing concern over security in Parliament, the opposition leader said, “How a fake major (army officer) could enter Parliament for over a year. If the security in Parliament cannot be ensured, what will be fate of the entire country?”
