KHULNA, May 31: Ship MV Banglar Mamota of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) left Mongla port on May 29 after loading 10,041 tonnes of raw jute for Karachi. Earlier, a total quantity of 30,078 tonnes of raw jute was exported to Karachi during the last three months. (March 08 to May 08).

No Karachi-bound ship was available from Mongla port during the last few months. As a result the export of raw jute to Pakistan was hampered. The jute exporters of Khulna region were exporting raw jute to Pakistan through Chittagong port.

Sources said, Pakistan Jute Mills Association and Bangladesh Jute Mills Association jointly sought cooperation of Bangladesh government and the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation for solving the problem.

In this context, BSC assured them of sending ships. Accordingly Banglar Mukh and Banglar Maya reached Mongla port on March 07 and April 02 and left Mongla Port loaded with 1036 tonnes and 10,001 tonnes of raw jute respectively. Even after that a huge quantity of exportable jute was waiting for expert in Khulna region. Later Managing Director of BSC sent Banglar Mamota to Mongla port on May 20, which left for Karachi on May 29 loaded with 10,041 tonnes of raw jute.
