KHULNA, March 23: Raw jute export to Pakistan through Mongla port has started after a pretty long time.
Sources said that the ship MV Banglar Mukh of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) left Mongla port on March 19 (Wednesday) after loading 10,036 metric tonnes of raw jute for Karachi, Pakistan.
No Karachi bound ship was available from Mongla port during the last few months. As a result the export of raw jute to Pakistan was hampered. The jute exporters of Khulna region were exporting raw jute to Pakistan through Chittagong port.
Source said, Pakistan Jute Mills Association and Bangladesh Jute Association jointly sought cooperation of Bangladesh government and Bangladesh Shipping Corporation to overcome the problem.
In this context, BSC assured them to send ships and Banglar Mukh reached Mongla port on March 07 accordingly.
