Ray of hope for the poor

Thursday, 16 July 2020

It is encouraging to note that the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), the state-run market intervention agency, has started selling food products across the country at lower prices since July 12. Already, we have long queues of apparently lower middle-income and poor people to buy those goods.
This will hopefully offer some respite to them during the tough times. The government should continue the sales even after Eid so that the commoners can buy these essentials at lower prices. It's also hoped that the authorities would come up with programmes to create income opportunities for those who lost their livelihoods.
