Razu for fixing mobile call charge at 25 paisa

Post and Telecommunications Minister Raziuddn Ahmed Razu Thursday stressed the need for reaching new technologies to rural areas for the development of telecom system, reports BSS.
The minister also called for taking necessary steps for fixing per minute mobile phone call charge at 25 paisa through new technologies.
He told officials after a paper presentation ceremony in the auditorium of Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Limited (BTCL) here. International mobile phone vendor Ericsson presented the paper on 3-G technology.
Post and Telecommunications Secretary Sunil Kanti Bose, BTCL Managing Director M Khabiruzzaman and Managing Director of TeleTalk Mujibur Rahman also addressed the function.
Razu also laid emphasis on bringing all educational institutions of the country under internet facilities by modernizing the telecommunication sector.
He also gave directives to the officials to reduce monthly internet charge at Tk 200 from the existing charge of Tk 500 at educational institutions in the interest of building 'Digital Bangladesh'.
The minister said, "We are lagging far behind other countries of the world in telecom sector due to the wrong decisions taken by the past four-party alliance government."
"The country had been linked with the submarine cable in exchange for a huge amount of money but it could have been done free of cost," he added.
