Razzaq laid to rest

Veteran politician and leading organizer of 1971 Liberation War Abdur Razzaq was laid to eternal rest amid a ceremonial state honour and tributes at the Banani graveyard, report agencies. A namaj-e-janaza, the fourth in the country, was held at the graveyard before the burial around 3:40pm. Thousands of people from all strata including cabinet members, senior leaders of the ruling Awami League and other political parties and social, cultural and professional groups joined the burial and prayers as the body was laid to the eternal rest. The burial came as the body was brought to Dhaka from his village home at Damudya of Shariatpur allowing the people there to have a last glimpse of their beloved leader and join his janaja. An army helicopter carried the body to his village and brought it back. Awami League advisory council member Razzak died at a London hospital on Friday while under treatment for liver, kidney diseases. He was 69.
