RCC adopts Tk 4.0b uplift projects

RAJSHAHI, Apr 11 (BSS): Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has taken up a Tk 4.0 billion uplift programme and implementation of the projects under the programme is progressing fast.
RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton stated this while addressing the prize-giving ceremony of sports competition organised by Hatemkhan Kodomtala Tarun Sangha marking the celebration of Independence and National Day here last night.
"We have undertaken a Tk 790 million (79 crore) project for developing the 12 disadvantaged wards of the metropolis," he said.
He said the pipeline-based gas supply to Rajshahi will start by next July.
Besides, he said construction of a 50-megawatt power plant is progressing fast at Katakhali and construction of another 50-megawatt plant is in the process at the same place.
For eliminating the unemployment problem, he said that a private garments factory is under construction at Sapura and more factories will be established in different areas in phases.
With president of the club Syed Rahmat Ali in the chair, RCC councillors Rabiul Alam and Bilkis Banu and former councillor Zahidul Islam also spoke on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the RCC mayor said two more universities would be built in Rajshahi soon.
In this context, he said steps have already been taken to establish an agricultural university and upgrading the Rajshahi Medical College into a medical university.
He said this while addressing the prize-giving ceremony of annual sports competition of Hamidpur Naodapara Pilot High School as chief guest here today.
Terming the students as the future leaders of the nation, he urged upon them to make themselves fit for leading the nation after acquiring real education in future.
