RCC builds Bangladeshi mural in Norwegian city

RAJSHAHI, Nov 9 (BSS): Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has built a Bangladeshi mural in Kristiansand city in Norway aiming at strengthening the longstanding friendship between the two sister cities.
Mayor of Rajshahi AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Mayor of Kristiansand City Odivir Brundksan jointly unveiled the mural besides a sea beach on October 24 last portraying various historical and cultural heritages of Bangladesh.
The 1000 square-metre picture mural has also depicted various other important features especially Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and four national leaders.
Mayor Liton revealed this at a press conference at the city bhaban conference hall recently narrating different aspects of the colourful inaugural events. He said this is a great achievement of the Rajshahi city and its people.
He said the mural is being adjudged as generous gift among the sand city people and his recent visit there will further strengthen cooperation between the two cities.
Giving an overview of the friendship he said a committee was formed first at Kristiansand city and Rajshahi in 1979 to pave the way of cooperation. In the first leg, they established a children ward in Rajshahi Christian Mission Hospital.
Under the friendship, he said they signed an agreement to invest the earning of school children through creative work in greening campaign of Rajshahi city. They will allocate Taka 1.8m for the purpose during the next three years.
Besides, the Norwegian city extends support for further development of Rajshahi Christian Mission Hospital and various other service delivery organizations here.
RCC Panel Mayors Shariful Islam Babu and Muslima Begum Belly, Ward Councilor Abdul Hamid Sarker Tekan and Chief Executive Officer Ajahar Ali, President of Rajshahi-Kristiansand Friendship Committee Dr Patric Bipul Bishwas and its General Secretary Prof Dr Shamsul Alam, President of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Mahtab Uddin and Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Prof Fazlul Haque were, among others, present at the press conference.
Bus-train collision leaves 25 injured in Rangpur
RANGPUR, Nov 9 (BSS): Twenty five passengers were injured in a bus-train collision at Kaliganj rail crossing on the Rangpur-Dhaka route under Pirgachha upazila here in the small hours of Saturday.
Police sources said the accident took place when the Tepamadhupur bound passenger bus from Dhaka was hit by the Dhaka bound Rangpur Express intercity train in absence of the on-duty gateman at the crossing at 2:30 am.
Pirgachha police immediately rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers from the damaged bus with the help of the local people and sent them to Pirgachha Upazila Health Complex.
