RAJSHAHI, May 16 (BSS): The Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has been implementing a poverty reduction programme in its slum areas for the last couple of years successfully.
The six-year "Urban Partnership for Poverty Reduction Project (UPPRP)" is being executed aiming at uplifting the hardcore poor people, particularly the women from the vicious cycle of poverty through empowering them.
Mayor of Rajshahi AHM Khairuzzaman Liton revealed this while addressing an evaluation meeting of the project at the city bhaban conference hall here today and asked the officials concerned to implement the project properly so that the target group of people could derive total benefits of the programme.
He said more than 0.27 million people are getting benefits from the programme through 164 community development committees.
Under different welfare-based components, various activities on mass-awareness meetings relating to habitat problems and their solutions, formation of committee and groups, preparation of action plan and registration of the committee are being conducted with a view to mobilise and organise them.
Apart from this, community workshops and training are being arranged on managing money, materials and labour, technical assistance and supervision for construction of infrastructure and other community facilities properly.
