RCC mayor among 11 charge-sheeted in extortion case

RAJSHAHI, July 26 (UNB): Former Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) lawmaker and Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Mayor Mizanur Rahman Minu and 10 of his associates were charge-sheeted Thursday in an extortion case.
Rajpara thana police submitted the charge-sheet to the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge AS Sheikh Zahirul Haque at noon on the day.
Shamsul Alam Khan, a member of managing committee of Evergreen Model School and College in the city, filed the case on April 21 with Rajpara thana accusing RCC mayor and his associates of demanding a toll of Tk 0.4 million (4.0 lakh) from him.
The joint forces arrested Minu on June 1 following the extortion case. Later, when produced before the court, he was sent to jail on a three-month detention.
