RCC mayor frees 1,000 marooned people from inundation

RANGPUR, Aug 25 (BSS): Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) and valiant freedom fighter Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu freed 1,000 marooned citizens from inundation caused by rain-fed water-logging in Ward No-15 in the city Tuesday.
The City Mayor freed the marooned city dwellers through releasing rain-fed logged flood water by setting up underground pipes after cutting the existing road at Ashratpur area under Ward No-15 at a ceremony arranged there as the chief guest.
Panel Mayor of RCC Abul Kashem, Executive Engineer Azam Ali, Vice-president of District Shop Owners' Association Ali Hossain Mollah and Joint Secretary of City Shop Owners' Association Moazzem Hossain Mithu, were present, among others.
Later, the City Mayor visited the submerged areas of Ghaghot Para and Court Para under Ward No-15 and Taluk Tampat, Dharmodas, Kabiraz Para and Lakshman Para areas under Ward No-32 in the city and enquired about the marooned people.
While visiting different temporary flood-shelters earlier on Sunday last, the City Mayor directed the concerned City Councilors for distributing five kilogram rice along with pulse among each of the flood-hit and marooned families in their respective ward.
He also assured the flood-affected people of providing all possible assistance from the RCC authority in mitigating their sufferings being caused by the rain-fed flood and logged water in different areas of the city. Accordingly, the City Councilors have been distributing relief goods among the affected city dwellers to assist them in overcoming the situation caused by the rain-fed temporary floods forcing them to take shelters at the educational institutions.
