RCC to develop 7 kitchen markets

RAJSHAHI, Oct 9 (BSS): Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) is going to transform its seven kitchen markets into multi-storied aiming at uplifting the business capacity besides facilitating the sellers and buyers in the markets.
RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton revealed this while sharing views with leaders of different kitchen markets and other officials concerned at his city bhaban office here on Saturday evening.
Mayor Liton said a project has been adopted for the purpose and before starting the implementation works the traders and businessmen of the markets would be rehabilitated for successful implementation of the project.
In phases, he said the current trend of marketing of vegetables and other perishable items here and there especially the roadsides would be resisted.
He categorically said the RCC wants to bring all the sellers and purchasers in the selected market places in a bid to restore a disciplined marketing management in the metropolis.
He underscored the need for creating public awareness widely so that the attempt is implemented.
RCC Ward Councilors Abdul Hamid Sarker Tekan, Abdus Sobhan and Sufiya Islam, Chief Executive Officer Ajahar Ali, Chief Revenue Officer Abdus Salam, Executive Engineer Khairul Bashar and businessmen Golam Sarwar, Lal Muhammad, Joynal Abedeen and Saheb Ali were present at the meeting, among others.
Worm-free society
Speakers at a preparatory meeting in Rajshahi on Sunday called for making the forthcoming worm-control week a total success with a collective effort of all quarters for building a worm-free nation.
They also laid stress on creating widespread health awareness among the school-going children for controlling worm to prevent many communicable diseases.
Terming the schoolboys and girls as the most vulnerable to worm infection, they called for making them aware about health hygiene and using sanitary latrine together with proper hand washing before taking every meal.
They were addressing the district level advocacy meeting organized by the Civil Surgeon Office at its conference hall ahead of the National Worm Control Week scheduled to be observed from October 25.
The main objective of the meeting was to disseminate ideas among the newsmen, stakeholders and other policy-makers so that they could play a vital role in creating awareness about controlling the worm.
