Muslim devotees staged demonstrations in different districts Friday protesting the release of sacked minister Abdul Latif Siddique from jail. Over seven months after his arrest for making disparaging remarks on hajj and Tablig Jamaat, Latif Siddique was freed from jail on bail Monday. Musollis under the banner of Islami Andolon Bangladesh brought out processions in Sylhet and Chandpur districts demanding the re-arrest and capital punishment of the sacked ministry. Narayanganj Ulema Parishad also held a rally in the city to press home the same demand. In Gazipur, Islami Andolon Bangladesh and Hefajat-e-Islam brought out a joint procession. The High Court on June 23 granted bail to Latif Siddique in 10 cases filed in Dhaka, Chittagong, Laxmipur and Chapainawabganj districts for his disparaging remarks on hajj and Tablig Jamaat, according to a news agency.
