Re-voting in Kurigram-4 Thursday

“The re-polling in Kurigram-4 will be held on Thursday,” Election Commissioner Md Shah Nawaz told UNB on Tuesday. Election Commissioner will arrange re-voting in two polling centres of Kurigram-4 constituency. The voting at the two polling stations was suspended due to widespread violence during the January 5 parliamentary elections in the 147 constituencies out of 300. Later, the Commission fixed January 16 for re-voting in Kurigram-4 and seven other constituencies, but the High Court stayed the re-polling in Kurigram-4. As the court withdrew the stay order on the re-voting in the constituency on Sunday, the commission on Tuesday decided to hold the re-voting in the constituency. In the January 5 elections, Jatiya Party-JP candidate Ruhul Amin bagged 30544 votes, while his nearest rival Awami League candidate Zakir Hossain polled 23946 in 104 centres out of 106 in the Kurigram-4 seat. There are 7252 votes in the two polling stations but the margin of vote gap between the two candidates is 6598. However, the army personnel are not being deployed in the election, EC Secretariat sources said. Huge members of law-enforcement agencies, including that of the Police, Rab, BGB and Ansar, will ensure security in the constituency during the re-voting.
