Ready to work as OC if people do not get desired service

Newly-appointed DMP chief tells Meet-the-Press

Newly-appointed Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mohammad Shafiqul Islam said on Sunday if people do not get desired services from any thana he is ready to work there as its officer-in-charge (OC), report agencies.
"If people don't get services, face harassment at thanas under DMP then I'll be there and serve people as an OC, if needed. DCs and other senior officers will be there," said the DMP chief.
The new DMP commissioner came up with the remarks while speaking at a 'Meet-the-Press' programme at the DMP Media Centre.
Necessary steps will be taken so that service seekers at thanas do not face any harassment, he said adding "This is my biggest challenge."
The officers-in-charge (OCs) and deputy commissioners (DCs) have been asked to take necessary steps for strengthening monitoring system at the thanas so that people can get rid of police phobia, he said.
The DMP Commissioner said people who are expecting better service from the
police station would be treated cordially.
"I sat with the acting officers-in-charge (OCs) and deputy-commissioners
(DCs) of all the thanas in Dhaka immediately after assuming office." he said.
They have been given necessary and strict monitoring instructions, he added.
Action will be taken if any policeman is found involved in harassing, extortion and illegal transaction for providing services, the DMP chief warned.
Referring to the traffic congestion in the city, he said traffic management will be brought under a tolerable level through stern monitoring.
Additional DMP Commissioners Md Monirul Islam, Mir Rezaul Alam, Md Abdul Baten, Krishnapad Roy and Md Mofizul Islam, among others, were present.
