Realtors or swindlers?

Thursday, 17 March 2011

Of late TV channels are abuzz with prime time ads claiming that one of the leading land developers is ready to hand over plots to buyers almost instantaneously. But then, clients who have allotment letters from that company and have already paid for their purchased piece of land are awaiting handover of their plots since long. Say for example, a client who has bought a plot of land at 'N' Block of Dhumki Moza a couple of years ago is yet to complete the registration process. The 'N' Block Plots are still underwater. The earth filling works have not yet started. It is not known if there is any legal barrier to filling up of the water-body. When contacted the official of the group said that it would take few more years for the actual handing over of the plots duly registered. Buyers have already paid millions of taka for the plots. The money thus spent remains idle and is earning no return. A recent REHAB regulation stipulates that handing over of plots should be completed at the quickest possible time. But realtors are not obeying the rules and consequently the buyers are losing in terms of bank interest on the money. Mahbubul Haque Chowdhury Dhaka
