Recognition of Jamdani, Baul song as Unesco heritage celebrated

The recognition of Jamdani and Baul song as Unesco heritage was celebrated through an exclusive cultural event at a Dhaka hotel on Saturday night. As the United Nations recongised February 21 International Mother Language Day over a decade ago, the UN’s educational and cultural body, Unesco, recognised Bangladeshi ‘Baul song’ and ‘Jamdani’ as the intangible cultural heritage of humanity in 2008 and 2013 respectively. Waivers of Jamdani and contributors to flourishing Jamdani, Baul singers including Kangalini Sufia were awarded at the programme. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu attended the programme as the chief guest. Speakers said Jamdani is an invaluable wealth of Bangladesh, according to BSS.
