Reconditioned hybrid car import to get nod
FE Report | Tuesday, 26 May 2015
The government is going to allow import of reconditioned hybrid cars responding to a long-cherished demand of vehicle importers.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith gave the assurance Monday to leaders of BARVIDA (Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers Association) at a pre-budget discussion with them at the ministry's conference room.
"I did not allow import of hybrid cars earlier considering their prices. This time we will allow it," he said. Mr Muhith assured them of resolving a dispute centring the process of counting age of vehicles.
Led by BARVIDA president Abdul Hamid Sharif the delegation requested the minister to withdraw the supplementary duty (SD) on import of microbuses of 12-15 seats to make it cheaper to consumers.
They also requested to reduce SD on import of jeep. In last budget the SD was reduced by 50 per cent. The leaders also requested to withdraw SD on import of reconditioned bus from Japan and Europe which would help facilitate mass transportation.
