Record Aman production in Rangpur Zone

RANGPUR, Jan 8 (BSS): Aman rice harvest has exceeded the target by 9.61 per cent this season in Rangpur Agriculture Zone (RAZ), officials said.
Additional Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Dr Kalidas Debnath said that the farmers had completed Aman harvest with excellent yield rates.
He also said that the crop grew better amid favourable climatic condition and the government extended all support to the farmers through its various departments that led to a bumper production. Horticulturist Mezbahul Islam Khandker of the DAE said that the farmers have produced 44,42,602 tonnes paddy this season in RAZ after completing the harvest recently. The farmers had cultivated Aman in 10,84,074 hectares land that is higher by 10,071 hectares than the target.
"The production of paddy was higher by 3,90,061 tonnes paddy than the 40,52,541 tonnes paddy this season," he said.
The achieved Aman yield rates in terms of clean rice stood at 3.19 tonnes per hectare for hybrid variety, 2.80 tonnes for high yielding variety and 1.64 tonnes per hectare for the local variety Aman this season.
A total of 12,710 officials including 10,621 from the DAE, 410 from Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics and 1,679 local public representatives and local elite took part in 32,271 sample crop cutting ceremonies in all eight upazilas under RAZ.
Renowned rice scientist with international reputation Dr MA Mazid today told BSS that the farmers have got good Aman yields and have already started farming subsequent Rabi crops.
