Record jackfruit production likely in four northern districts

BOGURA, May 17: Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials of Bogura, Joypurhat, Pabna and Sirajganj districts are expecting record production of jackfruit this season.
They also desire to harvest the fleshy fruit in next Bengali month of Jaistha if the weather condition remains favourable.
Deputy Director of the DAE, Sirajganj said, huge numbers of buds are growing well elsewhere the region as the farmers are taking frequent steps. The growth of tender fruits is progressing excellent this time across the region.
To make the fruits a profitable crops the authority concern advises the farmers to take proper care of the growing fruits.
After blooming the large numbers of tress this season, the tender jackfruits are growing smoothly amid favourable climatic conditions and frequent rainfalls predicting its bumper production, said Horticulture Specialist of the DAE at Joypurhat Mahabbat Hossain.
Jackfruit growers condemn that they did not get fair price of jackfruits despite its repeated bumper production last year. They also said that lack of adequate marketing facilities causing serious low markets.
They requested the authorities concerned to take early measures for ensuring adequate marketing facilities for fair price of jackfruit in the region.
Meanwhile bigger jackfruit traders have started communicating with their local agents to purchase the fruit from the major markets in the region.
The peasants are expecting a bumper production and better business of jackfruit as the fruits are becoming bigger in size following frequent rainfalls this season, said DD Protul Chndra Sarker in Bogura. We will monitor the jackfruits markets coming season, he added.
