Record Tk 3.53b collected in Ctg tax fair

CHITTAGONG, Sept 23: The Income Tax zones in Chittagong have collected a record amount of Tk 3.53 billion as income tax during the recently concluded weeklong fair as against Tk 400 million in the year 2010.
This has been possible as a massive change in the tax culture has taken place over the years in the people's mind and the build-up in their civic responsibility.
The development in tax culture was observed in this way by the senior officials of the tax zones as the tax fair 2014 concluded in the port city on Monday.
They said that over the last five years the volume of income tax has increased eightfold. The volume of tax collection through the fair last year (2013) was Tk 2.76 billion, the officials said.
In the year 2012, the tax collection during the tax fair was Tk 1.2646 billion while it was Tk 913.80 million in 2011.
Organisers of the tax fair said they have provided services to 218,513 persons of them 998 persons have registered themselves as new tax payers during the weeklong fair.
The number of submission of new income tax returns was 12,585.
The tax fair started last Tuesday and ended on Monday at Agrabad near the CGO Building-2.
A 20-storey Income Tax Building will be erected on the venue and its construction is expected to start before the end of this calendar year, organisers said quoting the Minister for Housing and Public Works Engineer Mosharaf Hossain who formally inaugurated the fair.
