Monday, 11 April 2011

Recording testimony in the sensational murder case of model Syeda Tania Mahbub Tinni has begun, reports bdnews24.com. Tinni's father Syed Mahbub Karim gave partial statement in Dhaka Seventh Additional District and Session Judge's Court Sunday after missing seven dates. Judge Fatema Najeeb set May 11 to record another part of Karim's statement, Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Mohammad Ruhul Amin told the news agency. The APP said Karim withdrew his decision to appeal to the court for including Tinni's ex-husband Shafakat Hossain Pial in the list of the accused. On November 10, 2002, the police recovered Tinni's body from under the China-Bangladesh Friendship Bridge over the Buriganga River and a case was filed with Keraniganj Police Station on the same day. The case statement says Golam Faruq Ovi, a former student leader and Jatiya Party (JP) MP, killed Tinni to hide his illicit relationship. Ovi is now in Canada.
