Records galore for South Africa in World Cup

PUNE, India, Nov 01 (Agencies): South Africa's Quinton de Kock hit his fourth century of the World Cup in the match against fellow title hopefuls New Zealand on Wednesday.
The left-handed opener reached his 21st career one-day international ton off 103 balls with eight fours and three sixes. He brought up his century with a huge six off Jimmy Neesham as the Proteas reached 205-1 in 36 overs.
De Kock also made 100 against Sri Lanka, 109 in the game with Australia and 174 in the victory over Bangladesh. He started the day needing just 69 more runs to pass 500 for the tournament when the Proteas were sent in to bat in Pune.
Having completed a 62-ball fifty, including three fours and two sixes, De Kock broke through the 500-run barrier with a legside boundary off recalled paceman Tim Southee.
With it, de Kock equalled Kumar Sangakarra for four hundreds in a single World Cup edition - the second highest by a batter. The Sri Lankan had hit four tons in the 2015 edition.
Rohit Sharma is top of the list with five hundreds during the 2019 World Cup. Mark Waugh, Sourav Ganguly and Matthew Hayden sit joint-third with three tons each.
De Kock's innings was also his highest score against the Kiwis in One-Day Internationals. In this innings, he overtook Jacques Kallis' record of the most runs by a South African batter in a single World Cup edition. The 30-year-old, who will quit one-day international cricket when this tournament is over, leads the World Cup run chart ahead of Australia's David Warner (413) and New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra (406).
Meanwhile, South Africa once again put in a dominating show while batting first in the ODI World Cup 2023 match. Playing at the Maharashtra Cricket Association in Pune, South Africa destroyed the New Zealand bowling attack, with two stunning centuries from Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen.
This took South Africa's tally of centuries to 8, joint highest in the history of the tournament, as they equalled Sri Lanka from the 2015 edition of the ODI World Cup. South Africa batters have been in stunning form in India, and apart from the blip against the Netherlands, have generally put in some terrific performances.
De Kock's 103-ball century laid the stone for South Africa to notch up yet another 300+ total while batting first in the World Cup 2023. Apart from de Kock, Rassies van der Dussen also brought up his second century in the tournament, hitting his century off 101 balls. Apart from de Kock and van der Dussen's combined six centuries, South Africa have seen two terrific hundreds from Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen.
Heinrich Klaasen's rapid century came against England on October 21 at the Wankhede Stadium. A total of eight centuries would have meant that there has been some big hitting from the South African batting department. South Africa now have broken the record of most sixes hit by a team in a single edition of the tournament. David Miller, batting in the 46th over of the innings, hit two back to back sixes off Glenn Phillips to cross 76 sixes - a record held by England in the 2019 edition of the tournament. The Temba Bavuma side, in the end, finished their innings with 357 runs for the loss of 4 wickets - their fourth 350+ total in the tournament.
