Recruitment in police starts

The initial recruitment process for 17,000 police jobs have begun, State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said at a programme in the city on Thursday. This was the 1st phase in a plan to add 50,000 new police personnel, he said at the programme held at the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) headquarters in Uttara. The programme was held to mark the integration of RAB's Criminal Database Management System and the Election Commission’s National ID database. The junior minister said initiatives were on to establish a new police cell to fight cyber terrorism. In February, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had announced that 50,000 new recruitments would be made for the police in phases. The current manpower of Bangladesh Police stands at about 165,000, according to a news agency.
