Bangladesh Red Crescent Society will make an international appeal for Tk 1.4 billion (Tk 140 crore) for carrying out relief and rehabilitation activities for the cyclone victims, as the country is forced upon a daunting task of rebuilding vast coastal localities out of ruins.
The local chapter of the humanitarian organisation has decided to make the appeal through the International Federation of Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies, reports UNB.
"With the money from donors, Red Crescent will carry out relief and rehabilitation activities for a period of two years," an official announcement said Saturday.
This was discussed at a meeting of the Red Crescent Society with its Chairman Prof Mohammad Abdur Rab in the chair on the day.
As per the plan, food and other essentials will be given to the worst-hit 0.1 million families for the first one year while 5,000 houses will be built for the worst-hit families.
Income-generating vocations will also be undertaken for lower-income people in the next phase.
Under the comprehensive post-cyclone programme, it will also provide health services to 243,000 families, safe drinking water and drainage system for 0.1 million families and temporary shelter for 30,000 families.
