CHITTAGONG, July 17: Bureaucratic procrastination is hampering implementation of pre-paid metering system of Power Development Board (PDB) in Chittagong aimed at reducing system loss of power and enhancing revenue income.

According to PDB sources, Tk 7.50 billion was allocated for the implementation of the system with a view to bringing 3,50,000 subscribers of Chittagong under the first phase of the project. Accordingly, a draft project profile was sent to the Planning Commission.

After about one-and-a-half years the Planning Commission advised to re-submit the draft in a reduced form.

Sources concerned with pre-payment metering project said, the reduced project profile was submitted to the external resources division (ERD) about five months back. It was supposed to be submitted to the ECNEC after the ERD approved it.
