Redressing income imbalance in USA
Monday, 6 April 2015
An AFP report from Washington is an alarming signal for the US economy that needs to prop up the household income of the poorer section of their society. In effect, what is possibly happening is that the rich are getting richer, while the poor are becoming poorer day by day and more so in the urban areas. If this trend is not arrested and reversed, then possibly the USA may have to face darker and possibly more violent days ahead, that may even have a global impact.
Things could go out of hand and peace for the people, particularly in urban areas, will be the fist casualty. This writer is not sure, if their social security net is linked to the cost of living and provides more relief, either in cash or even kind, to counter the rising cost of food and other essentials for living. The impact on health care, a costly service in USA in normal times, may leave the poorer section uncared for and susceptible to diseases and other health care problems, because nutrition intake will be downgraded with the rising cost of living.
Hopefully, the US authorities are aware of the potential dangers of this trend and will take timely measures to contain the situation, which may create law and order situations, particularly in the crowded low-income areas in large cities. In short, the greed for wealth by the well-to-do, may have to be trimmed to fill many empty stomachs of the poor and needy.
